The greenest thing you can do is try to fix something you already have before throwing it away!

Another event coming in 2025! Stay tuned.

Wilton Go Green and Cannon Grange have teamed up to host the Repair Café!

Our Repair Café is a gathering place for members of our community to not only try and repair a treasured item and give it a chance at a second life, but also learn alongside our volunteer fixers.  And if we can't fix it, we can direct you to someone who can or at least know we tried.

Our Repair Café is organized into two categories:

  1. Repairs – our fixers will bring their tools and spare parts, take a look at your item and assess what they can do to help.
  2. Consultations – sit and talk with our experts to ask questions about your item and get some tips on repair

Repairs:

  • Bicycles – i.e. seat adjustment, squeaky brakes, chain issues, flat tires
  • Jewelry – i.e. clasps, extend, cleaning,
  • Small appliances
  • Lamps
  • Clothing – i.e. buttons, patches, holes, knitting projects, small hems, stuffed animals/loveys
  • Stereo, Amplifiers and turntables

Consultations

  • Tech Support – i.e. updates, scam alerts, connectivity issues, diagnostics

This is a free event.  Donations are always welcomed.

HOW THE REPAIR CAFE WORKS

  1. Repair Cafe fixers have 30 minute slots.
  2. Only ONE item can be brought during that 30 minute slot.
  3. If you have more than one item you need to sign up for more than one time slot.
  4. To allow for more residents to participate, each person is allowed a maximum of two time slots for the entire event.
  5. Be sure to let us know what you are bringing when you sign up so we can prepare our fixers.
  6. Attendees sign a waiver when you arrive.
  7. We will have coffee/tea and a lovely waiting area.  When your fixer is ready, a volunteer will let you know and bring you to your fixer.
  8. Our generous volunteer fixers will assess the item you brought and let you know if they can help repair the item or not.  If they can repair the item, please remain with your fixer and learn what they are doing.

REGISTER WILL BE BACK AT OUR NEXT EVENT

History of Repair Cafes

The concept of a Repair Café took root in Amsterdam in 2009 as a way to combat our “throw-away” economy.  By reducing the amount of stuff that gets tossed in the trash, we can lessen the global impact of overconsumption while saving money by repairing what we already own.  The skills used to fix everyday items can be passed on and inspire others to see the value in the things they may have once thrown away.  Benefits of a Repair Café include reducing household waste, cutting CO2 emissions and using less materials than it would take to produce something new.  The community benefits from the passing-on of valuable skills that are threatening to disappear in this “one-click online order” culture.
